A search warrant is a written order from a court directing law enforcement officers to conduct a search for evidence of a crime and to seize the evidence found. Under the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution, searches and seizures by the government generally require a search warrant based on probable cause, particularly describing the locations to be searched and the objects to be seized, and issued by a neutral judicial officer. The Fourth Amendment also sets conditions regarding execution of a search warrant.
