Katie Cavnar teaches urinalysis and body fluids with laboratory, immunohematology, immunodiagnostics, and hemostasis and coagulation. Cavnar is a medical laboratory scientist with 20 years of experience working in the fields of microbiology, immunohematology, hematology and molecular biology in clinical and research settings. Before coming to UWF in 2012, she was an instructor in prokaryote biology at Florida State University and a biological scientist at FSU College of Medicine. She’s also worked as a medical technologist at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Merriter Hospital in Madison Wisconsin and Baptist Healthcare in Pensacola. For her graduate thesis in molecular biology, she developed a DNA probe assay for rare transfer RNAs to determine its use in measuring the expression of the ArgX gene in E. coli.
