The University of Arizona Global Campus Teaching & Learning Conference, 11/07/2023–11/09/2023, Virtual
The rising cost of textbooks affects students globally, no matter if they attend a public or private institution. Open Educational Resources (OERs), offer a free, online alternative to traditional publisher-created textbooks and materials. This panel will discuss how the University of West Florida (UWF) encouraged and fostered faculty participation in OER adoption, adaption, and creation models in courses around campus. You will hear directly from UWF faculty and a librarian who have created numerous OERs by different methods, and how these resources have not only assisted students here at UWF, but around the world, gain access to free, interactive educational resources.

Florida Library Virtual Campus (FLVC) OER Summit , 2022, Virtual Conference
Are you struggling to finish an OER project? We’ve been there! Too often students face a dilemma between expensive course materials and basic needs. We don’t want our students to face that choice so we decided to create an open textbook that incorporates critical thinking and information literacy. Our plan was to adapt existing OER texts. Our energy and enthusiasm was high and the project progressed despite headwinds. Then the wheel-spinning commenced. Join us as we describe how we got back on track.

Supporting undergraduates as they enter the scholarly conversation
Date presented 2021
Southern Mississippi Institutional Repository Conference (SMIRC, 04/29/2021–04/30/2021, Virtual
Most institutional repositories have no issues with reaching out to campus faculty and researchers in their attempts to host and highlight university scholarship. But what about students? Often the focus begins and ends with graduate dissertations and theses or perhaps the occasional high profile undergraduate project.
We wanted to go a step further. Many colleges and universities support undergraduate honors and research programs whose culminating projects include presentations and/or participation in symposiums and conferences. As scholarly output of the university, we wanted to capture their work before they graduated or moved into the workforce or graduate work.
This brief presentation will describe our strategy, pros and cons, and success in building a sustainable process that provides IR inclusion for undergraduates at the University of West Florida.
