Bio & Expertise
Dr Tunde B. Shonde is a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry. Before joining the faculty, Dr Shonde obtained his B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. As part of his honor thesis, he worked on the adsorption studies of toxic heavy metals by agro-waste under the supervision of Professor Kayode Adebowale. After a brief industry experience, he proceeded to PhD at Florida State University (FSU) under the supervision of Dr Biwu Ma, where his doctoral work focused on advanced materials for electronics and energy devices. His dissertation, "Molecular Sensitization of Organic Metal Halide Hybrids and Complexes for Radiation Scintillation," explored new materials and concepts for efficient high-energy radiation detection and applications. His work has been published in leading journals such as Advanced Materials and Advanced Energy Materials. Dr. Shonde is passionate about education and mentoring, having guided undergraduate students during his Ph.D. and co-authored with a few of them. He is a proponent of good and sound education for all. He is an active member of the Material Research Society (MRS), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE).
