This text was specifically written for SPC 2608: Public Speaking at the University of West Florida. It is designed to be an ongoing effort, with contributions from all instructors to make the material included specifically adapted to UWF’s Public Speaking course experience. The goal of the text is to create an efficient, free, and accessible resource for students taking the course, with material written to prepare for specific speech assignments in the class. Dr. Adam Blood is the Director of Speech and Debate at the University of West Florida, and the Basic Course Director for SPC 2608. He received at PhD in Rhetoric and Public Culture from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and has been coaching competitive speakers for over ten years. Some references in this text come from his years as a competitive speaker, speech and debate coach, and instructor of communication courses.
