Introduction: Capstone Adaptive Learning & Therapy Centers, Inc. (CALT) provides support for those with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. The identified problem/issue for the group home was the limited and outdated meal plans offered to the residents. Study findings show caregivers under report or overlook the dietary issues faced by residents which can negatively impact health.
Aims: The purpose of this project was to refine the current meal plan system to allow increased variety and customization to each resident s dietary needs and preferences. The aim was to develop an itemized grocery list and inventory list or the first two weeks of meal plans by April 2025.
Methods: The group developed two tools using MSExcel. The first was Biweekly Grocery List, including cost and amount needed for the time period with two tabs: (1) Produce, Dairy, and Meat; and (2) Grains, Condiments, and Frozen. The second was an Inventory List showing current stock quantity and volume needed for reordering.
Results: A PowerPoint explaining how to use the tools was presented and provided to the agency for future use. The group home director provided positive feedback and communicated that the tools will allow them to follow regulations while increasing efficiency.
Conclusion: Group home caregivers form their dietary choices for clients by relying on their own understanding of nutrition and diet. This project has the potential to streamline the accessibility of the meal plans and ensure variety and customization based on patient nutritional needs and preferences.
