Abstract
Introduction: The UWF Community Garden (UWFCG) is a campus resource, promoting nutrition education, sustainability, and access to fresh foods for students and the surrounding community. The identified issue was the need for publicity about the garden to increase utilization. College students often face barriers to healthy eating, including food insecurity, limited access to fresh produce, and lack of awareness of available campus resources.
Aims: The purpose of this project was to reduce barriers to healthy eating among UWF students by increasing awareness about the UWFCG and benefits of healthy food choices. The aim was to provide UWF students with information about the UWFCG, Edible Campus, and available healthy food options on 3/11/2026.
Methods: An infographic was created to promote awareness about the UWFCG as well as the benefits of healthy eating. The infographic was created with sustainability in mind, so that it could be used by the UWF Community Garden at future events. A table was reserved at the UWF Commons.
Results: The group handed out 50 infographics at the event and feedback was positive. Project impact was measured one week post event. Results showed: UWF Community Garden Instagram page acquired twelve new followers, and the Argopulse UWF Community Garden Group, the myUWF volunteer sign-up that collects essential contact information, secured one new member.
Conclusion: This project increased student awareness of the UWFCG and the associated benefits of gardening. Healthy dietary habits, especially fruit and vegetable intake, support academic success and can be encouraged through garden-based nutrition education.
