Abstract

Screen time reduction parental education Nursing Nursing Education Pediatrics Public Health
In the United States, the pediatric population encounters screens ubiquitously. Children engage with screens in various ways such as television or hand-held devices. Excessive screen time has become an increasing concern among the pediatric population due to the negative impact it can have on children's physical growth, obesity, cognitive development, behavior, and educational outcomes. However, the pediatric population is unique in that they are under the legal protection and oversight of parents. Therefore, interventions aimed at health promotion in the pediatric population invariably involve the parents or guardians in some way. Parents are key stakeholders in the context of screen time in the pediatric population. Nurses are unique members of the health care team who aim to promote health lifestyles through advocacy and teaching interventions. This presentation implicates the role nurses have in addressing excessive screen time in the pediatric population.
