Opioid use disorder continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States (Rudolph et al., 2022).
Opioids are highly addictive because they trigger the reward centers in our brains and release endorphins and boost feelings of pleasure causing individuals that attempt to break their addiction to often relapse back into opioid use (Pruthi, 2024).
Methadone maintenance treatment is an effective evidence-based intervention for opioid use disorder (Lister et al., 2022).
