Abstract
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health disorder in which a person has difficulty recovering and functioning after an traumatic experience or event. Previously deemed to only exist within military and first responders positions, rates of PTSD along with associated depression, anxiety and other mental health disfunctions have been skyrocketing among the general population in recent years. Many forms of traditional therapy such as; cognitive behavioral therapy, prolonged exposure therapy and pharmacological intervention, do not effectively work for everyone. MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is a cutting edge compound that acts as an empathogen and psychedelic stimulant that shows promising results for a reduction of PTSD related symptoms by reducing anxiety associated when recalling traumatic life experiences.
