Delayed cord clamping (DCC) is the practice of waiting at least 30–60 seconds after birth before clamping and cutting the umbilical cord. This delay allows additional blood to transfer from the placenta to the newborn, increasing blood volume, hemoglobin levels, and iron stores. In contrast, immediate cord clamping (ICC) occurs within the first few seconds after birth and may limit this placental transfusion.
