Abstract

Advance care planning ICU Goals of care Nursing Nursing Education Public Health
Critically ill ICU patients may lose decision-making capacity, requiring families and clinicians to make urgent treatment decisions. Without early advance care planning (ACP) and goals-of-care discussions, treatment may default to aggressive care that does not reflect patient values. Evidence supports structured communication, palliative care involvement, and documentation of preferences to improve goal-concordant care.
