Impact of Educational Interventions with Visual Reminders on Hand Hygiene Compliance Rates Among Healthcare Workers
Abstract
Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a critical yet preventable safety issue that demand immediate attention. According to Özduran Ören and Kes (2026), “nosocomial infections are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide…and 35% to 55% of these infections can be prevented through effective strategies”. However, a major contributor to this problem is the consistently low compliance with hand hygiene practices among healthcare workers (Lin et al.,2021). Chakma et al. (2024) states that “low HH compliance (HHC) accounts for up to 40% of infection transmission in healthcare facilities”. Despite comprehensive guidelines, there remains a significant gap between awareness and action, resulting in serious consequences that include increased patient harm, longer hospital stays, and soaring healthcare costs. To address this challenge, it is essential to implement effective strategies that reinforce hand hygiene consistently and engagingly in real time. Relying solely on education is not enough; we must emphasize compliance to enhance patient safety outcomes and protect those who depend on our care.
