Abstract
Frequent education of staff on proper hand hygiene is greatly needed in hospital facilities, given that Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) continue to be a significant burden of morbidity and mortality. HAIs are infections that patients acquire while receiving treatment for medical or surgical conditions, and they affect an estimated 1 in 31 hospital patients on any given day in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , there are approximately 1.7 million HAIs annually, contributing to nearly 99,000 associated deaths.(“CDC HAIs,” 2024) Poor hand hygiene significantly contributes to the transmission of pathogens, leading to many infections among patients (“CDC HAIs,” 2024) Regular training and reinforcement of hand hygiene practices can enable healthcare institutions to improve adherence to guidelines by their staff, which in turn, would prevent more HAIs.
