Abstract
Introduction: The Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (FDOH) provides public health services for the community. The identified problem was the need to educate parents about adolescent sexual and future maternal health. Research findings show open communication about sexual and reproductive health can greatly benefit the health of adolescents.
Aims: The purpose of this project is to provide knowledge about puberty-related development and health. After this education participants will be able to: (1) Describe the changes in the body during adolescence; (2) Discuss the impact of health choices during adolescence on future maternal/infant health; (3) Identify services at the FDOH that support adolescent health.
Methods: The group developed an educational presentation and pamphlet about reproductive health for adolescents using Canva. A post survey was created using Google Forms. The target audience is parents of adolescents.
Results: The group presented the draft of the educational deliverables to FDOH administrative staff. Feedback from the presentation was incorporated in the final deliverables. FDOH administrative staff will submit deliverables to the state office for approval so that the materials can be officially used in the community. FDOH administrative staff feedback was positive.
Conclusion: Parents play an important role in the shaping of their child s behaviors and knowledge. Ultimately, the group would like to see increased usage of FDOH services by parents to improve the reproductive health of their adolescents.
