Shift change report is a critical part of a nurse's responsibility that ensures accurate information exchange to the oncoming nurse. When the information provided at handoff is inaccurate or poorly communicated, it increases the risk of communication errors, delays in care, and leads to decreased patient involvement (McAllen et al., 2018). Bedside shift report (BSR) involves the patient into the handoff process, which in turn promotes patient-centered care and increases patient satisfaction. Patient satisfaction is influenced by how patients view their involvement in their care, how supported they feel during hospitalization, and whether they feel their concerns are heard and addressed by the healthcare team. When patients are actively involved in discussions regarding their treatment and plan of care, evidence shows that there is an increase in patient satisfaction demonstrated by decreased anxiety levels and an improved trust in their healthcare team (Daicampi et al., 2025).
