Abstract

Our inquiry explores the critical role of women’s positioning during childbirth and its impact on maternal outcomes. When comparing the multiple positions with the standard supine there have been benefits to changing the position the women delivers their baby vaginally. There is strong evidence that showed that “Supine positions are linked to greater fetal heart rate abnormalities and fewer spontaneous vaginal deliveries than upright or side-lying positions” (Satone & Tayade, 2022, p. 10). The authors stated that there have been disadvantages with the supine positions, and when changing the positions in which the mother is delivering from, there has been advantages seen. Research reveals percentages of lateral birthing positions have the most intact perineum with 66.6% and 28.3% lacerations (Satone & Tayade, 2022, p. 9).
