The Joint Commission defines alarm fatigue as a densinitization or numbness that healthcare workers experience due to alarms sounding repeatedly (Hall, 2023). Critical care nurses deal with many of these consistent alarms throughout their ordinary shifts. These alarms can range from those alerting on a ventilator, IV pump, cardiac monitor, or a respiratory monitor. With the development of alarm fatigue, a patient might be at risk of not receiving good quality care.
