Abstract

The expectations for improvement in the quality of academic programs and educational services continue to mount despite the deficiency of financial resources. To meet this challenge, institutions at all levels are turning to technology for improved administrative efficiency and worldwide access to educational resources. Existing and diverse computing resources are being utilized more effectively through a new computer system model: client/server computing. To this end, new technological tools are constantly being designed and developed. One such tool is the Intelligent Academic Advising System (IAAS). This article focuses on the purpose, the design and the implementation of IAAS—a tool which, the author believes, will have a tremendous impact on the way educational institutions provide effective academic advising services.
