The Alabama Cyclist: A Descriptive Study

Abstract
According to the Leagues of American Bicyclist, Alabama is ranked last in bicycle friendliness. This descriptive study tracks the economic impact the Alabama Backroads Century Series (ABCS) has on local communities. Participants in the ABCS represent an attractive market for the communities where these rides are held. Participant demographic and lifestyle characteristics are identified with an eye toward aiding event organizers ability to identify local businesses who should benefit from having their message displayed at these events and enhance Alabama’s bicycle friendliness.
