Abstract
By installing the correct materials-handling system, a molder can take a major step toward assuring consistent process quality and improving productivity. Specifying the correct materials-handling system is especially important now, as injection molders face a host of challenges that are forcing them to rethink and remake many aspects of their operations. The first step in upgrading a shop's materials-handling capability is to analyze the existing system to determine the extent of the improvements that need to be made. As a processor evaluates the system, it is important that the processor involve employees that work with it, such as resin handlers, set-up technicians, machine operators, and engineers. Most importantly, the processor needs to find where material and production losses happen and why. It is also crucial that a processor involve auxiliaries suppliers from the start in developing a system plan.
