Abstract

Implementation is the process of communicating, piloting, launching, monitoring, and modifying interventions. The intervention implementation process model consists of 4 stages: 1. plan, 2. do, 3. stabilize, and 4. institutionalize. Each stage must be completed sequentially to facilitate change. Each stage consists of the same 4 tasks: communication, action, auditing, and feedback. The intervention implementation process model provides a roadmap, guiding the performance improvement specialist through each stage in the implementation process. The model relies heavily on communication. Effective communication ensures that all stakeholders are kept informed, that the support of upper management and early adopters is publicized, and that employees understand the importance of the change and how it affects the business and the individual. Implementation requires action at all stages, by all concerned, to be successful. The model's main limitation is its linearity and the time and expertise necessary to use it effectively.
