Abstract
The case study of a 41-year-old man who died from rabies is presented. The man was examined and released by a hospital on Oct 4, 1994, in West Virginia after physicians believed his physical symptoms were caused by drug use or abuse. He was admitted to another hospital where rabies was considered a cause of his ailments, but was not actually diagnosed until several days later. The source of the exposure was a bat, and he had been infected with it since Jun or Jul 1994. Transmission of the rabies virus to initial patients and those who treat such patients is addressed.
