Abstract
The published research literature examining the use of constant time delay in teaching chained tasks was reviewed. Twenty investigations were identified and analyzed in regard to demographic variables (e.g., participants, settings, instructional format, dependent variables), procedural variables (e.g., probe format, 0 s delay sessions, delay sessions, controlling prompt), outcome measures (e.g., effectiveness, procedural modifications, efficiency measures, maintenance, generalization), and methodological adequacy (e.g., research design, dependent variable reliability, independent variable reliability, social validity). Implications of the research and future research directions are discussed.
