Abstract
In this commentary, we extend upon LeFevre-Levy et al. (in press) by looking at the selection process in hiring neuroatypical applicants. Many view neuroatypicality as a disability or medical issue. But the social model views the same behavior traits as a difference, such as any other demographic characteristic. As such, we discuss neuroatypicality from a view of
inclusion and explore how organizations can adjust selection procedures to enhance their deep level of diversity and increase organizational performance by avoiding passing over quality candidates because they are "different." Overlooking those differences manifests a form of market myopia, a form that causes organizations to miss the chance to hire qualified people in an increasingly competitive labor market. Organizations must modulate their HRM strategies to avoid myopic views (Lemay et al., 2020).
