Abstract
The curation crisis is an ongoing concern for many archaeological repositories across the United States. The purpose of this research was to identify ways that the University of West Florida’s Archaeology Institute could alleviate their curation crisis, specifically by implementing a Collections Management Policy (CMP). The creation of a CMP for UWF’s Archaeology Institute was completed in conjunction with historic background research, professional interviews, student surveys, facility inspections, and document research to properly assess the curation crisis at UWF and identify potential solutions. The results showed that while a CMP would be beneficial to the Archaeology Institute, they will likely need to adopt more sustainable archaeological field practices, make their collections more accessible, and encourage students to use existing collections in their research to significantly alleviate their curation crisis.
