Abstract

Aquatic biospheres are essential, life-sustaining components of the ecosystem on a global scale. Research is revealing significant changes, with both immediate and slower, long-term effects, to these ecosystems as a direct result of environmental factors, which also present threats to the inhabitants of these areas. This study was conducted to determine the Critical Thermal (CT) Maxima and Minima for the game fish species, Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus), at acclimation temperatures of 15℃, 20℃, 25℃, and 30℃. The highest mean CT Maxima value and lowest mean CT Minima value were 39.96℃ and 4.1℃. The information derived from this study shows temperature distributions and suggests new areas Red Drum and other closely related species could inhabit. Moreover, the implications of this study reflect the potential consequences of climate change on habitat loss, diminishing food sources and disruptions in fish physiology, and provide insight and support regarding the need for environmental interventions.
