Abstract
The ten-week study was conducted to determine the effects of vigorous Hatha Yoga on cardiovascular fitness and flexibility. It included an intervention group and control group. Participants were tested using the Forestry 5-Minute Step Test and a sit-and-reach box. Data were analyzed to determine significant improvement in cardiovascular fitness and flexibility. The intervention was 60 minutes of vigorous yoga twice a week. Participants completed pre- and post-test questionnaires and fitness testing as described above. As conducted, the study could not show a positive result for cardiovascular fitness (p = 0.3). Vigorous yoga was capable of increasing students’ flexibility (p = 0.018). Additional research is necessary to determine if yoga has a positive effect on cardiovascular fitness.
