Abstract
Object tracking and recognition are essential tools for advanced autonomous navigation systems, particularly in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This project centers around the innovative application of AirSim within Unreal Engine 4.27 to develop a sophisticated tracking and targeting system. The primary motivation behind employing a simulated environment instead of real-world settings is to eliminate the numerous uncontrollable variables inherent in physical scenarios. This controlled simulation allows for a more precise and detailed evaluation and refinement of various targeting theories. A key focus in creating a simulation is the exploration and fine-tuning of advanced computer vision-based methodologies for targeting. These include techniques like object tracking using contour boxes with YOLO (You Only Look Once) algorithm. By utilizing this approach in a simulated environment, the project aims to perfect these methods before integrating them into real commercial products, such as standardized drones. The significance of this project lies in its broad range of potential real-world applications. One of the most notable applications is in search and rescue missions, where the accuracy and reliability of tracking and targeting systems can dramatically enhance operational efficiency and safety. Additionally, the system could be adapted for other uses such as surveillance, environmental monitoring, or even entertainment industries for advanced special effects. By building upon these foundational works, this project aims to refine and enhance existing technologies and extend their applicability to a broader range of scenarios, including commercial and humanitarian applications. The ultimate goal is to demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of simulated environments in developing and testing complex tracking and targeting systems, setting a precedent for future technological innovations in various fields.
