On December 25th, 1891, the citizens of Choctaw County, Alabama, rose up and put an end to the murderous rampages of Robert Bruce Sims and his loyal band of fanatics. In what is still considered to be one of the most bizarre and brutal incidents in the history of the state, eighteen men, women, and children were killed, dozens more were wounded, and the lines separating right from wrong, just from unjust, and good and evil were irrevocably blurred. While the story of the so-called Sims War is true, this fictionalized account follows the younger John Sims as he travels back to the home he left behind to seek out any survivors. He is soon swept up in the violent aftermath of Robert's execution, and is forced to flee into the wilds of the Burcayda swamp. There, he makes a startling discovery, and finds himself face-to-face with the frightening origins of his brother's madness.
