Previous work at UWF has examined the influence of artificial reef placement near the piers as well as any pier or reef construction materials that could be attracting the turtles,
examining overall reef tonnage and proximity to the piers as well as local attractants such as nearby seagrass beds (unpublished data). Our study aims to examine the human
element of pier and artificial reef use that could be driving the high numbers of turtle bycatch at Navarre pier compared to Okaloosa Pier.
