Abstract

Sports Performance Analytics Data (SPAD) is an observational analysis of data collection related to athletic performance on game days and in practice. This collection of data enables coaches to gain a deeper understanding of their athletes' abilities. The data may highlight weaknesses and strengths, such as fatigue, heart rate range, stress, motion analysis, biomechanics, and energy expenditure. We do not have a comprehensive understanding of how coaches utilize it; however, we are aware that “data science's role in sports serves as a driver for innovation and a transformative force for athletes, coaches, and fans alike” (Najjar, 2023). The goal of this study is to understand the impact of the data between the athlete and the coach and how that data is applied to individual performance through asking are coaches aware of sports performance analytic data, and if so, how are they using the data?
