Study Purpose: This research effort aims to identify the barriers that currently exist in the social work landscape, with a particular focus on those related to social work education, that may inhibit effective preparation for social work practice. The identification of these barriers is a critical first step to developing strategies to remedy this issue, and in turn, equip future generations of social workers to impactfully intervene at the macro level. Through this research, barriers were identified in six areas: 1) curriculum, 2) faculty expertise, 3) accreditation, 4) field placements, 5) lack of coordination 6) and licensure. While not an exhaustive list, the barriers presented here represent areas in need of further examination and novel solutions.
