Abstract

Accelerated maturity refers to the concept of young children and adolescents experiencing pressures to leave childhood and enter adulthood sooner. Perceptions of childhood and maturation have changed slowly, but significantly, over the last five-six generations and either inspires adult content in youth media or arises from it. Nonetheless, today's youth are confronted with adult media content like never before, through films, television programs, social media/internet, and other mediums. Adult content includes both subtle and graphic representations of sex, violence. drug use, alcohol consumption, and emotionally upselling topics such as rape, infidelity, among more.
