Excerpt - Global Change Biology recently published a paper by Zhang et al. (2025) that takes on this question of the effects of excess Non ecosystem stoichiometry in a variety of forest types in China. This was quite an ambitious study in multiple dimensions, including duration (over a 13-year period), nutrient elements (not only N and P, but also C), biome (four), forest type (eight in total),and ecosystem component (live plant tissue, detritus, soil, and microbes), all over a distance of ~3800 km (spanning 32° of latitude). Indeed, to fully appreciate the significance of their study and the results that it produced, I devote considerable attention to describing the methodology.
