Abstract
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) supports students' social, behavioral, andacademic success. The school district selected for participation in this study was implementing a PBIS program and had to determine areas to focus on during professional development. This action research study aimed to determine teachers' teaching self-efficacy beliefs in an urban Michigan school district preparing to implement a PBIS program. Participants (N = 153) in the study responded to the teaching self-efficacy instrument (Siwatu, 2007). The research study sought to determine the differences between the grade levels that the teachers taught and their teaching self-efficacy. The analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in self-efficacy scores, and the secondary teacher group was significantly higher than the elementary teacher group regarding the measure of self-efficacy. The research study sought to determine if significant differences existed in self-efficacy scores across different subjects taught. There was no significant difference between the two groups. The results indicated differences in teaching self-efficacy between teaching grade levels, but no difference in subject taught, which might inform the design of professional development for the district preparing to implement PBIS. This action research study concluded with a discussion concerning the study's implications and suggestions for future research.
