Abstract

This study examined the influence of stimuli presentation order, distraction, learning strategy, and age on young children's causal understanding of a physical task. Using presentations of token combinations that either elicited or did not elicit music, 80 pre-school children were asked to determine the token that correctly elicited music. Half of the participants received a distractor task of reciting the alphabet and half received a think aloud learning strategy. Significant differences were found only for age, regardless of presentation order, distraction, or learning strategy.
