Abstract

Competency-based assessment focuses on each student’s mastery of learning targets. It is critical especially in a learner-centered learning approach such as project-based learning as it allows teachers to identify individual learning gaps and provide just-in-time support during the project. This study explores the ways of designing a competency-based assessment in online project-based learning in higher education to develop a grounded theory for the best practices for designing assessments for online project-based learning in higher education.
