Abstract

In today’s higher education landscape, staff well-being is no longer a luxury—it's a necessity. At The University of West Florida's John C. Pace Library, our Circulation Department reimagined its scheduling model to prioritize flexibility, equity, and work-life balance, while still maintaining 18-hour daily coverage. This lightning round presentation will share how we implemented a variety of flexible scheduling options—including remote work (for administrative tasks), flex time, and compressed workweeks—within a traditionally rigid service model. The session will highlight our collaborative approach to redesigning schedules, the tools we used to manage coverage and communication, and the cultural shifts that made these changes successful. Attendees will leave with practical takeaways, lessons learned, and a renewed perspective on how libraries can support frontline staff through flexible, sustainable scheduling practices, without compromising service.
