Introduction: The Bayview Senior Center is funded by Pensacola’s Department of Parks and Recreation and serves as a community gathering place for seniors. The issue identified was the impact of social isolation on the health of seniors. Study findings show group art therapy promotes self-expression and social connectivity. Aims: The purpose of this project was to offer a social experience for the seniors of Bayview, providing an opportunity for self expression and interpersonal connection. The learning objectives were: (1) Describe the impact of art on health; (2) Discuss how art improves community connection; and (3) Demonstrate the use of painting to promote self expression. Methods: The group organized an art experience titled “Paint and Sip.” Prompts were developed to guide participants. A fun healthy “mocktail” menu was created to encourage socialization. Deliverables included: Flyer to promote the event; and infographic and presentation about the health benefits of art. The group purchased canvases and food for the event. The infographic was attached to the back of each canvas. Results: The 14 participants who attended the event crafted their own paintings and were educated about the benefits of art on health. Participant and staff feedback was extremely positive. participants stated they enjoyed meeting new people during the event, demonstrating improved community connection . Conclusion: Social isolation, depression, and cognitive decline are significant risks for senior adults. This social art activity helped reduce social isolation by fostering a sense of community and belonging among older adults.
