Abstract

Academic Libraries Library Technology
Technology lending programs have become an essential service in academic libraries, helping to address digital equity and ensure that students have access to the tools necessary for academic success. This presentation examines the development and management of a large-scale technology lending program at the University of West Florida Libraries, where more than 750 technology items are available for checkout to students, faculty, and staff. Drawing on practical experience and usage data, the session explores strategies for creating sustainable lending policies that balance access, accountability, and resource stewardship. Topics include equipment loan agreements, fine structures, remote device management, damaged equipment procedures, and account-blocking practices designed to encourage timely returns while maintaining a student-centered approach. The presentation also highlights the role of grant funding, Student Technology Fee support, and ongoing collection assessment in sustaining and expanding technology offerings. Particular attention is given to the use of circulation statistics, loss reports, and user feedback to inform policy decisions and improve service outcomes.
