Abstract
Graduate Paper Award Winner
Machine learning systems are being developed that can identify whether an individual has depression by analyzing data from their activity on social media. Some argue that the individual must give informed consent before these systems begin analyzing their social media data. In contrast, I argue that according to one version of democratic egalitarianism, if certain conditions are met, informed consent is only required to disclose the results of the analysis to the individual.
