Abstract
Introduction: Gulf Coast Kid’s House (GCKH) is a non-profit child advocacy center (CAC) that helps abused children and their families within Escambia County. The identified need was funding support and community awareness. CACs improve the health outcomes for children by providing collaborative legal, medical, advocacy, and mental health services in one location. Aims: The purpose of this project was to raise community awareness and financial support for GCKH and the work they do advocating for children and families who have suffered from abuse. The aim was to increase the number of participating local restaurants in the Eat Local, Give Local campaign by 10 and provide education about the importance of CACs. Methods: The project deliverables included: (1) Shared Google database of restaurants in Pensacola; (2) Initial recruitment and follow-up emails to send to restaurants; and (3) Informational flyer. Canva and Google Docs were used to develop the deliverables. Results: Recruitment emails included 120 initial and 105 follow-up sent to local restaurants. The group visited and provided the flyer to 10 local restaurants. A Spirit Night BJ’s Brewhouse was held on July 14, 2026. The efforts resulted in 17 additional restaurants participating in the campaign. Conclusions: By increasing community awareness and engaging local businesses, this project supported Gulf Coast Kid’s House efforts to expand fundraising opportunities through the Eat Local, Give Local campaign. Sustained community partnerships and financial support are essential to ensuring the organization can continue providing comprehensive, trauma informed services to children and families affected by abuse.
