Abstract
Much of the general public struggles with ideas regarding what science is and how science works. Secondary science classrooms provide a place for students to develop critical thinking regarding nature of science concepts, which is a component of the Next Generation Science Standards and a requirement for scientific literacy. Recently, secondary science teachers have found themselves transferring their science teaching online. Therefore, typical teaching strategies must change for online instruction. Examples of instructional strategies and lessons for teaching nature of science online are illustrated with the central idea of an explicit focus on students’ meaning-making versus simply passively giving information.
