Introduction: Health and Hope Clinic (HHC) provides primary care for adults in Florida who are uninsured. HHC is a designated Narcan distribution site and the identified need was increasing awareness about opioid overdose. The death rate from opioid overdose in Escambia County reached 43.5 per 100,000 in 2024 which is higher than Florida (17.2) and nationally (23.1).
Aims: The purpose of this project was to increase awareness about Narcan and opioid overdoses in Escambia County. The aim was to provide 100 educational infographics and Narcan kits to the Pensacola community at Gallery Night.
Methods: Deliverables included a “Spray to Save” infographic in English and Spanish. Health literacy was considered, utilizing plain language and graphics to provide easily understood education. Canva was used to develop the infographics that included key points of administration of Narcan. Health and Hope provided 144 Narcan nasal spray kits.
Results: The group distributed 144 boxes of Narcan and educational infographics to the community at the event. Feedback from the community was mixed with some individuals unfamiliar with the medication and others appreciative, recognizing the value of Narcan in preventing overdose deaths. HHC expressed gratitude and pleased by the number of kits distributed.
Conclusion: The distribution of Narcan throughout the community has the potential to improve the outcome of an opioid overdose. The group was inspired by this opportunity to help provide awareness of the distribution program which has the potential to decrease the number of opioid overdose deaths in the community.
